Hi claude, following idea:
Using an LLM together with a Map service (Openstreetmap, even better: google maps) through an MCP server or API to create an AI assistant that plans trips with you (idea originated as primarily hikes, but it can be applied to any kind of trip I think).
A chat like interface on the left, on the right it displays a map where it draws routes, picks out hotels/stays, provides all the links, provides other necessary and useful data for the trip.
1) Can this be achieved? 2) would it be truly useful – or just a fancy wrapper of an LLM? 3) is there anything like that out there? 4) what other core features would you suggest that would make this truly useful?
I just had the idea since I am planning a hiking trip in the dolomites. I think I’d monetize it through affiliate deals to hiking gear, booking.com and any other things that would work. I’m primarily a wordpress dev – what tech stack and design would you recommend?
Workflow:
User: „Plan a 3-day hike in Dolomites, moderate difficulty“
Process:
- LLM API call → Parse requirements
- Query local hiking database → Find matching routes
- LLM processes cached route data → Suggests itinerary
- Leaflet map → Visualize routes with markers
- Generate outbound links to AllTrails, Komoot, official sites

Instead of calculating routes: – Display GPX tracks from scraped data – Show waypoints, huts, viewpoints as markers – Provide direct links: „View detailed route on AllTrails“ – Link to official booking sites for accommodations
